APF Support Victoria

kell 5 compressed.jpgThe APF welcomes our new State Co-ordinator for Victoria, Kellie Dines.  Kellie is looking forward to utilizing her personal experiences in a way that would benefit others.

She wishes to become very proactive in increasing both awareness and membership support networks throughout Victoria.  Whilst social gatherings will continue in Melbourne Kellie is keen to make support services more accessible to regional members with meetings and casual get-togethers to be established in these areas.

Kellie is available for telephone and email contact.  Because she has a small family she requests telephone contact to be between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

Please contact Kellie for more information.

2010 "Pituitary in Bendigo - Unearthing the Facts"

The Pituitary Awareness Seminar held at St. John of God Hospital in Bendigo on Saturday 3rd July was excellent.  Attendees travelled from as far as Sydney, Melbourne, Albury, Wodonga, Swan Hill and Gippsland area.   There was a winter chill in the air, with temperatures freezing!

The hospitality extended by St. John of God Hospital, Endocrine & Diabetes Eductor Deirdre Thorn and her staff was warm and welcoming.  The Foundation was pleased to bring this event to regional Victoria and plans, where-ever possible, to continue to service areas such as Bendigo.  Thank you as well to Deirdre who hosted an afternoon gathering for patients after the event so they could network and chat.

The Foundation would like to thank all the presenters for travelling into Bendigo from various areas including Sydney.   (left to right with Kellie on the end)

  • Ms. Susie Burrell, Specialist Weight Management Dietician, the Children’s Hospital at Westmead Sydney

Raffael’s Café – Werribee - 28th March 2010

Despite not realising that our first 2010 Victorian social gathering had been booked for same day as both the Melbourne Grand Prix and also the first weekend of the AFL season, we had an entertaining group of 14 for lunch at Raffael’s Café in Werribee.

The venue proved to be a success with everybody finding access easy enough and enabling some of more regional members the opportunity to participate. Of the 14, only a couple had met previously and we had a great time getting to know one another and sharing our stories.  Everybody commented on the reassurance they gained from being able to speak freely and ask questions of others, proving once again the importance of group support. Lunches were yummy and some of us even managed a dessert…just!

Thankyou to all who attended for being so candid with your experiences and making the afternoon enlightening, light hearted and fun. Hopefully we have all formed some new friendships and I look forward to seeing you all again for another social event in a few months.

History of VIC

Pat-Hasenrader.jpgPat officially retired in 2007 as the Victorian co-ordinator of the APF after over a decade of service.   Members and the commitee would like to sincerely thank Pat for her wonderful contribution to the community and also the Foundation.

Pat was a member of the original steering committee, organised by St Vincent's Public Hospital, to set up a support group for pituitary patients in Victoria.  At the same time, Lloyd Roever and Ron Waters were establishing the APF in Sydney. The two organisations joined forces and Pat has been Victorian Secretary since 1993.

Jill - Vic Support.jpgJill Murray took over the role as Victorian State Co-ordinator for the two years since 2007 and her contribution to the Foundation is also greatly appreciated.  Jill was farewelled at a Victorian get-together recently - please see the section on Current Activities for more details.
