In February 1986 I was diagnosed as having acromegaly - a complaint which I had, with hindsight, for a number of years - as I learnt at the time of diagnosis. I exhibited most of the usual classical features – large hands and feet, incorrect bite, protruding jaw, high forehead, sleep apnea, oily thickish skin etc . A Patient Story - Norma
Being diagnosed with Acromegaly was quite a shock as it’s often unheard of and quite a rare disorder to have, but it was also a relief to finally put a name to all the strange symptoms I had been experiencing for about 10 years prior. It is presumed by specialists that the pituitary tumour developed around the age of 40 years and became more active at about 50 years of age. My Story - Pat
I suffered from the vast majority of symptoms associated with acromegaly; enlarged hands and feet, skin tags, tingling in the hands, weight gain and the onset of impaired vision amongst others. The worst symptoms were joint pain and acute sinusitis, which led me to see my GP in the mid 1980’s.

In 1997, at the age of 37, I was at work when I started to feel hot with sweat running down my face and soon pain generating down my left arm. As I worked at a medical service I called for a doctor who confirmed that I was having a heart attack. Read more...
